Attention, Village of Jerome pet owners! We’d like to remind everyone about the village ordinance regarding the care and control of pets to ensure a safe and happy environment for all residents and their furry companions.
Key Points of the Ordinance:
- Pets Must Be Under Control: Animals, including dogs and cats, must be restrained when off the owner’s property. This means they should be on a leash or securely enclosed within a fenced yard.
- Vaccinations Are Required: All dogs and other pets must have up-to-date inoculations as required by the Illinois Animal Control Act. Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are current and submit certificates to the Sangamon County Public Health Department.
- No Excessive Noise: It’s important to keep pets from barking, howling, or making loud noises for continuous periods of time that disturb your neighbors, especially during the quiet hours between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
- Clean Up After Your Pet: Please ensure you clean up any excrement left by your pet on public property or someone else’s private property. We all want to keep our village clean and pleasant!
- Limit on Pets: No household may have more than three (3) dogs and cats combined unless they are kept primarily inside the home.
- Vicious/Dangerous Animals: If your pet has been deemed vicious or dangerous, specific measures must be taken, including secure enclosures and signage to warn others.
- Animal Welfare: Pet owners must provide humane treatment, food, water, shelter, and veterinary care for their animals. Neglect or abuse will not be tolerated.

Let’s all work together to keep our community safe and pet-friendly!
