Jerome Zoning Ordinance and Planning Commission

History and Purpose

The Jerome Village Board passed the Zoning Ordinance on May 19, 1962. Its primary purpose is to conserve the taxable value of land and buildings throughout the Village.

Zoning Commission

  • Created by the Village Board
  • Members appointed by the Village Board
  • Regulates and restricts:
    • Construction
    • Reconstruction
    • Alteration
    • Use of buildings, structures, and land (residential and commercial)

Building Permits

Residents must obtain a permit before starting any work that alters the use of land or buildings in the Village. This includes:

  1. Construction
  2. Alterations to land or structures

To apply:

  • Obtain a Building Permit Application form from the Village office
  • Submit the form with a plan drawing
  • Pay a moderate fee

    • 7 Commission members
    • Village President
    • Building & Zoning Trustee
  • Appointment:
    • Recommended by the Village President
    • Approved by the Village Board
  • Purpose: Regulate construction, reconstruction, alteration, and use of buildings, structures, and land for both residences and businesses

  1. Is there a electrical permit or is this part of the overall building permit? Are there fees in reference with electrical inspections? Which rendition of the NEC do you currently work with and is there any current intention of adopting new rendition within the next 9 months?
