The Public Health Department is responsible for enforcing the Village’s public health ordinances and addressing any violations within Jerome.
Key Ordinances Enforced:
- Leaf burning restrictions
- Proper handling of garbage
- Inoperable automobiles
- Animal control
Filing a Complaint: If you notice a public health issue, you can file a complaint by calling the Village Office at (217) 546-2203 or contacting the trustee in charge of the department. Your identity will remain confidential. Once a complaint is filed, it will be investigated to determine if a violation exists. If a violation is found, the resident will be notified and required to take corrective action. Failure to comply may result in fines and penalties as allowed by the ordinance.
Leaf Burning and Bonfire Restrictions: The Village does not permit leaf burning, and there are specific restrictions on bonfires. If you plan to have a recreational fire, please review these regulations.
Other Ordinances: The Village also regulates:
- Animal keeping
- Storage of boats and campers
- Removal of debris and garbage from properties
For a complete list of ordinances, visit the Village Office during regular business hours.
Flu Vaccinations: Each fall, the Public Health Department partners with the Sangamon County Health Department to provide Influenza vaccination shots at a reduced cost to residents at the Jerome Civic Center.
I have noticed a couch sitting in front of a house on Leonard that has been sitting there for quite some time. Clearly it has no value to anyone anymore since it has been exposed to the elements for quite some time now. Is there any action being taken to get it out of there?
